How To Buy GoDaddy Domain And Hosting

godaddy custom domain and hosting guide

If you are thinking about launching a blog or a website, congratulations! Blogging is a very rewarding profession, and if you’ve decided to make a living out of it, you need to have a blog.
I’m making a few assumptions here:
  • You want to launch a blog that is self-hosted and you want to use GoDaddy to do so.
  • You’re starting your journey to professional blogging (blogging to make money).
  • You’ve never purchased a domain name or hosting before.

written instructions on buying a go daddy domain and hosting

What You Will Need

  1. A GoDaddy Account
  2. A Credit Card/ Debit Card or Net Banking

  • Time Needed: 10 minutes
  • Level of Experience: Novice

To Launch A Blog You Will Need To

  1. Buy A Domain Name (5 minutes)
  2. Buy Hosting (5 minutes)

How To Buy A GoDaddy Domain

  1. Head over to GoDaddy
  2. You’ll see their homepage
  3. Type the domain name you want
  4. Click Search
  5. In case your preferred domain name is already taken, choose from the ones that are available, or try for another domain name.
  6. After selecting the domain name you want, click continue.

After clicking continue, you’ll be taken to this page:

At this point, since you’re only buying a domain right now, you don’t have to select anything and just click continue.

Now, you should be able to see this page:

  • Just right beside your domain name, you’ll see a number of years you want to buy it for. So choose that according to your wish. (Remember: You get the heaviest discount if you’re a first time buyer. So go for at least 2 years at once.)
  • Then you might want to check in private registration if you don’t want just about anyone to be able to see your information (I usually take this one, always.)
  • Lastly, just click Proceed to Checkout and follow through and complete the transactions.

And you’re done. Now let’s get out hosting. (Remember not to log out at this point.)

How To Buy A GoDaddy Hosting For Your GoDaddy Domain

While you’re still in your account find “GoDaddy” and click it. It’s located on the upper left-hand side of the webpage.
After clicking on the “GoDaddy” button you should see their homepage:
  • Find “Hosting
  • Click onHosting” and you should see a green drop-down menu like this:

  • Now go ahead and click on “Web Hosting
  • This will take you to a page that will look similar to Godaddy’s homepage, but scroll down until you see this:

You want to opt for a plan that you think would suit your budget and needs best, but in case you’re just starting out, I recommend using the starter plan. It’s also the cheapest.
After hitting the add to cart button, you’ll see the following:

You want to leave these un-ticked and just continue through.
After clicking continue, you’ll be able to see the following page:

  • Here, you should adjust the amount of years you need the hosting for, if you purchased your domain for a year, keep this to 12 months, and if longer then, 36 months (You’ll have to keep renewing your hosting to match your domain)
  • Then click proceed to checkout and complete your transaction.

Congratulations you’ve now bought yourself both a domain name and hosting from GoDaddy!

All that’s left now is to one-click install a CMS system in your cPanel and you’ll be good to go!

Note: CMS (Content Management System) such as WordPress.

If you need help installing a CMS on your blog/website, GoDaddy people are extremely helpful and will guide you through the process. Just call their support.
